MIDDLETOWN, Pa. -- Rutter's marked the opening of its 60th convenience store, located in Middletown, Pa., with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and donations to three local charities.
Rutter's donated $1,000 each to The Middletown Area Blue & Gold Club, the Lower Dauphin High School Falcon Foundation and the Londonderry Township Volunteer Fire Co.
Scott Hartman, Rutter's president and CEO, also accepted a proclamation delivered by Dauphin County Commissioner, George Hartwich, who declared Sept. 4, 2014, "Rutter's Farm Store Day" in Dauphin County.
One of the largest of the chain's 60 stores, the 6,280-square-foot site is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and includes 12 fueling spaces and four high-speed truck diesel fueling spaces.
Each customer who swipes a Rutter's Rewards card at the pump will save three cents per gallon every day.
The newest store offers around-the-clock access to Rutter's food menu and gourmet coffee bar, free Wi-Fi, USB charging stations and seating for 21 people. It also offers iced teas and local dairy products.
In other company news, Rutter's has been announced as a winner of the 2014 Store Operations Superstar Awards by Retail Touch Points magazine. The panel of judges acknowledged Rutter's as a leader in customer engagement, citing Rutter's development of the convenience store industry's first mobile app, one-to-one marketing capabilities and the dynamic Rutter's Rewards loyalty program among the reasons for the recognition.
"We are thrilled to be considered a leader in an industry as competitive and expansive as the retail industry, especially in the realm of customer engagement, something we strive to improve upon every day," said Rutter's chief customer officer Derek Gaskins. "It's great to see how our efforts measure up to retailers outside of the c-store industry, and gratifying to know we're leading the pace among bigger, national, even international, brands."
York, Pa.-based Rutter's operates 60 convenience stores throughout central Pennsylvania.
