SCS Completes Store Rebranding

Gas-roulette promo set for grand openings of 7-Eleven sites in El Paso

EL PASO, Texas -- Forty recently acquired convenience stores sporting a new 7-Eleven banner will open officially this weekend, as Southwest Convenience Stores (SCS) completes its revamp of locations it bought last July from the Good Times chain.

Odessa, Texas-based SCS, a 7-Eleven franchisee, will use radio broadcasts and vendor-sponsored giveaways as part of its grand-opening weekend celebration, and will also incorporate a novel gasoline promotion, said Michael Scarpelli, vice president of marketing for SCS.

In an interview [image-nocss] with CSP Daily News, he said employees will give away gasoline to people who can pump exactly $7.11 worth of product during a two-hour window at five locations.

SCS is actually opening 41 stores officially, with one of them being a ground-up. The gasoline promotion ties to a shift in gasoline brands, with SCS's parent company being FINA-branded supplier ALON USA, Dallas.

Commenting on the Good Times acquisition and his chain's growth in the El Paso market, Scarpelli said, The addition was a good fit for us. The stores were in a highly populated area and were not in direct competition with our [existing] locations.

SCS purchased 40 of the El Paso-based chain's 56 locations in a deal announced last July. Scarpelli said Good Times is still operating the remaining 16 units.

Through SCS, ALON has c-stores in West Texas and New Mexico running under the 7-Eleven and FINA banners and supplies motor fuels from its refinery in Big Spring, Texas.
