Sheetz a 2011 'Best Places to Work in Pennsylvania' Nominee

Retailer has made list every year since 2002

ALTOONA, Pa. -- Convenience retailer Sheetz Inc. once again has been ranked among the nominees for the "Best Places to Work in PA" list. The Team Pennsylvania Foundation has released an alphabetical list of the 2011 nominees. A partnership of Team Pennsylvania Foundation, the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development and the Central Penn Business Journal, the Best Places to Work 2011 list represents companies with approximately 80,000 employees throughout Pennsylvania.

Final rankings will be awarded and honored at the Best Places to Work in PA awards ceremony on December 1 at the Lancaster County Convention Center in Lancaster, Pa.

Altoona, Pa.-based Sheetz has made the list every year since 2002.

"Talented and in-demand employees from around the world can use the Best Places to Work listing as a tool to find their next employer, and employers use the information from the survey to increase employee retention, refine corporate policy and ultimately boost profits," said Matt Zieger, president and CEO of the Team Pennsylvania Foundation.

"The companies that are being recognized today exemplify what it takes to create an outstanding work environment through a steady dedication to employee growth and satisfaction," said Alan Walker, secretary of the Department of Community & Economic Development. "Their commitment to excellence reflects the exceptional quality of life found throughout the commonwealth that makes Pennsylvania a great place to live and work."

The Best Places to Work in PA Program is generally made up of two groups of companies: 50 medium-sized (25-250 employees) and 50 large-sized companies (251 employees or more). Through the research process, a survey is sent to both the employers and employees from hundreds of companies from across the commonwealth. This year, however, more medium-sized companies scored higher marks than large-sized companies, so the list is made up of 65 medium-sized firms and 35 from the large category.

Winning companies achieve the highest combined scores in a twofold evaluation: review of a company's workplace policies, practices, philosophies, systems and demographics (25%); and results of an employee survey to measure the employee experience (75%).

Using a formula similar to Fortune's "100 Best Companies to Work for in America," the Best Companies Group surveys and scores the workplace practices survey along with the employee survey and each Best Places to Work candidate is given an overall score.
