Sheetz Debuts Three N.C. Stores in As Many Weeks

Mount Airy, Graham, Dobson locations bring total count to 424

ALTOONA, Pa. -- Sheetz Inc. opened its 44th and 45th North Carolina convenience store and "convenience restaurant" on June 21 and 29 in Graham and Dobson, respectively. With the opening of the Mount Airy, N.C., location on June 14, the retailer opened three stores in as many weeks.

Adam Sheetz, director of regional operations joined city and county officials at the Graham  ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The new 6,500-square-foot store is the company's 423rd store, and will provide an economic boost to Alamance County. The new Sheetz will create 40 to 45 new full and part-time jobs and add $3.5 million taxable property value to the city and county tax base.

"North Carolina continues to be a viable market for Sheetz expansion," said Stan Sheetz, company president and CEO. "Ten of the 32 new stores we are opening in 2012 will be in North Carolina."

At the Dobson ribbon cutting, Louie Sheetz, executive vice president of marketing, joined Adam Sheetz.

The new 6,300-sq.-ft. store is the company's 424th store, and will provide an economic boost to Surry County where the unemployment rate topped 10% in May, above the state's average of 9.4% for the same period.

The new Sheetz will create 40 to 45 new full and part-time jobs and add $3.5 million taxable property value to the city and county tax base.

The stores are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and offer fresh food items such as Sheetz's signature Made To Order (MTO) items that include Angus beef burgers, grilled chicken sandwiches, salads, French fries, onion rings and more. The stores features MTGo! and Shweetz Bakery lines of sandwiches, wraps, donuts and muffins, along with Sheetz Bros. Coffeez, a full-service espresso and smoothie bar staffed by a trained barista where customers can order handmade specialty coffee drinks including lattes, cappuccinos and mochas--hot, frozen or iced.

Sheetz has been a supporter of the Special Olympics for more than 20 years, and it made $2,500 donations to the local chapter of Special Olympics North Carolina as part of the opening festivities for each store.

The first 50 area residents waiting in line at each store received $100 Sheetz gift cards. During the opening, customers played games to win prizes and enjoyed samples of Sheetz food and beverages.

Altoona, Pa.-based Sheetz has more than $5 billion in annual revenue and more than 15,000 employees. The company operates 424 locations throughout Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio and West Virginia.
