Sheetz Invades Rutter's Home Town

Continues growth with store No. 6 in York, Pa., store No. 2 in S.W. Va.
ALTOONA, Pa. -- Sheetz Inc. has opened a new convenience store in York, Pa., its sixth store in the home town of Rutter's Farm Stores Inc. And Sheetz continued its plan of developing a new market by opening the second of several stores in southern West Virginia with a new location in Milton.

The 5,000 square-foot facility in York officially opened its doors last Thursday, and employees hosted a grand opening celebration with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in the afternoon for customers and media.

"We are excited to have the opportunity to show our devotion to better serving [image-nocss] the needs of our customers in York," said Stan Sheetz, president and CEO of the Altoona, Pa.-based chain. "We have operated stores in that area for 16 years now. The people there have been a loyal fan base to us."

The location offers fresh food items such as the MTGo! and Shweetz Bakery lines of sandwiches, wraps, donuts and muffins, the signature Made-To-Order (MTO) line of Angus beef burgers, grilled chicken sandwiches, salads, French fries, onion rings and more. Also available is Sheetz Bros. Coffeez, a full-service espresso and smoothie bar staffed by a trained barista. Customers can order handmade specialty coffee drinks including lattes, cappuccinos and mochas, hot, frozen or iced. Frozen fruit smoothies round out this specialty drink menu. Sheetz also offers premium-brewed self-serve coffees in several varieties and flavors.

Customers place their food and specialty coffee orders at touchscreen order kiosks. A surcharge-free ATM and variety of retailer gift and phone cards is available as well. The new store has a car wash on the lot, too.

As a part of the celebration, Sheetz made a donation to the Springettsbury Township Parks & Recreation department for its Summer Playground Program.

"This community has been so welcoming and generous with us so far," said Stan Sheetz, referring to southern West Virginia. "The new store in Barboursville that opened a few weeks ago is doing very well. People have embraced us, and we are excited to continue the growth here."

Doors officially opened to customers last Thursday, and employees will host a grand opening celebration with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 9. As part of next week's celebration, the company will make a donation to Milton Middle School for a new walking track.

The facility, also 5,000 square feet, will offer the same fresh food and beverage items.

With more than $4.9 billion in revenue for 2008 and more than 12,000 employees, Sheetz operates more than 350 convenience locations throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio and North Carolina, all open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
