Sheetz Ranked No. 1 Pa. Retailer

No. 12 on top 100 companies list

ALTOONA, Pa. -- The Best Places to Work in PA group has ranked Sheetz Inc. No. 12 on its list of 100 top companies for 2007, the top-ranked retailer on the list. The regional convenience store chain has been given this honor for six consecutive years. The announcement was made Tuesday in Hershey, Pa.

"This honor is truly something special for us at Sheetz because it comes from our employees," said Stan Sheetz, president and CEO of Altoona, Pa.-based Sheetz. "Without good people on our team, we wouldn't be where we are today. I thank everyone who works [image-nocss] at Sheetz for their commitment and dedication."

Items such as quarterly bonuses, all-expenses-paid trips to celebrate milestone anniversaries with the company and employee stock ownership programs all contributed to Sheetz getting the nod over other companies to make the list.

The primary goal of the Best Places to Work in PA program is to help companies improve their workplace practices in order to attract and retain the best employees. This is all in an effort to help these companies maintain business success.

The program is open to all publicly or privately held organizations whether for-profit or non-profit. The companies must have a facility in Pennsylvania, have at least 25 employees in the state and be in good standing with all Commonwealth agencies under the governor's jurisdiction.

Sheetz is ranked in the large company category of businesses with more than 251 employees.

The assessment process is comprised of a two-part survey in which employees are asked to evaluate their workplace experience and the employer is asked to describe its company benefits, policies and practices along with other information. This provides the Best Companies group with in-depth analysis of the strengths and opportunities that exist to build a better workplace.

"A primary corporate objective here at Sheetz is for our employees to want to be at workto enjoy it," added Stan Sheetz. "We're continually learning what employees and customers want and we constantly try to improve those things. It feels great to know we are able to provide our people with a gratifying work experience."

The Sheetz chain is also honored with similar recognition in the state of Ohio, where it is currently listed as the 5th best large company in the state.
