Spreading the Love's Around

Travel stop chain adds locations in Tennessee, Kansas, Arizona
OKLAHOMA CITY -- Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores Inc. has officially opened two locations this week and taken possession of two more. Yesterday, it said that it has opened a new travel stop in Dickson, Tenn.; on Wednesday, it opened a location in Ellis, Kansas; and on Tuesday, it closed the former Gas City site it purchased in Benson, Ariz., to prepare for its re-opening as Love's, along with a Shell site across the street.

The Dickson Love's, located at I-40/Highway 48, Exit 163, will include Subway and McDonald's restaurants. It will also feature 111 truck spaces, [image-nocss] two diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) dispensers to reduce emissions, CAT scales, a lotto machine and other amenities.

"We are focused on the highest levels of customer service and meeting our customers' needs at the new travel stop," said Greg Love, president of Love's Development Cos. "We are committed to making a difference in the Dickson community."

The Love's Travel Stop in Ellis hosted a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony on May 4, in partnership with the Ellis Chamber of Commerce.

As part of its ongoing commitment to the people and communities in which it operates, Love's donated $2,000 to nonprofits benefiting Ellis. Love's gave $1,000 to the Community Foundation of Ellis benefiting the Ellis Food Box Program, which distributes food to those in need in the community. The store also donated $1,000 to the City of Ellis Municipal Pool, which is raising funds for safety and training equipment on behalf of the Bryce Stropes Memorial.

Love's district manager Shane Anderson and general manager Casey Ruiz presented checks to the organizations during the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores opened the new travel stop in Ellis in February, located at exit 145 off I-70. The Ellis Love's includes Subway and Dairy Queen restaurants.

"This location fits well with our commitment to offer a variety of amenities for professional drivers and the motoring public," said Greg Love. "We're excited to continue our growth in Kansas, and we're proud to donate to these organizations, which are dedicated to serving Ellis citizens."

And Love's closed the Gas City truckstop at Route 90 and I-10 while it transitions the site to the Love's brand, reported The San Pedro Valley News-Sun.

The Shell Express and convenience store located across the street was closed temporarily on Tuesday, but was reopened Wednesday. Like its Gas City neighbor, it too will be branded as a Love's.

Love's spokesperson Kyla Turner told the newspaper that Gas City and the convenience store were sold in a bankruptcy and purchased by Love's.
"Gas City closed the truckstop [Tuesday]," Turner said. "We purchased both buildings and will be opening the convenience store on Wednesday." The Gas City truckstop, however, will be closed for four months while it goes through a complete refurbishing, said the report; plans are to reopen in September.

All 50 Gas City, Ltd. businesses owned by William J. McEnery have been sold in bankruptcy court in Illinois. Gas City, which has two locations in Tucson, two in Sierra Vista and one in Benson, will be undergoing changes once the new owners take possession. In Sierra Vista, one Gas City location has been purchased by Valero Energy Corp., while Circle K will be taking possession of another.

Love's hired 18 local residents to fill positions at the convenience store, Turner said, with plans of hiring between 40 and 50 more people for the truckstop, once it opens in September.
