OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill. -- It was silver all around for the staff of CSP magazine at the regional ASBPE Awards (also known as the Azbees) in Chicago last week.
For the third year in a row, senior editor/special projects coordinator Samantha Oller was honored for her analysis of CSP's proprietary research study, the Outlook Survey. This year she took the silver in the regional awards, and last year she won a bronze national award for her story on the 2012 survey.
Senior editor/content development coordinator Angel Abcede took the silver regional award in the individual-profile category for his story on late Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes president John MacDougall, CSP's 2013 Retail Leader of the Year. Angel last year took home a regional gold award for his 2012 profile of CSP's previous Retail Leader of the Year, Kwik Trip's Don Zietlow.
Angel has also been recognized by ASBPE for his profiles of 7-Eleven's Joe DePinto and RaceTrac's Carl Bolch Jr.
Samantha again was recognized, along with director of editorial production Jennifer Bulat and former lead designer Jenn Parquette, in the category of special supplement for the 2013 Category Management Handbook (CMH). This in-depth special issue of CSP, which took the regional silver award, also has been recognized numerous times over the past 10 years for excellence in information graphics.
"There is something to be said about having the most senior editorial team in the convenience and petroleum industry," said Mitch Morrison, vice president and group editor. "We work tirelessly to meet more retailers throughout the year and to make sure we are writing about the challenges and opportunities most relevant to our industry's 150,000 companies. As much as we pay attention to the business end, we are equally, if not more committed to, celebrating our industry's people. That is why these awards are so meaningful--because they underscore our coverage of both our industry and our people."
