Jim has shown the ability to direct many facets of our organization and the desire to bring our company to the next level. We look forward to Jim's continuing influence and role in the VERC expansion," said CEO Leo Vercollone.

In other company news, VERC Enterprises recently contributed more than $3,400 to the American Red Cross for distribution to Hurricane Katrina victims. The effort was made successful thanks to generous customers, matching corporate funds and an inspiration borne of a VERC associate's desire to help, the company said.

"I was watching the horrible devastation on television and thought we needed to do something to help these people who had lost so much," said Barbara Hughes, an associate with the VERC Mobil Pembroke for the past two years. "I knew our customers would be helpful, but their generosity, combined with the generosity of the Vercollone family was wonderful."

Large water jugs with emblazoned with the message "Help the victims of Hurricane Katrina" were placed on counters of the VERC Mobile Pembroke, VERC Duxbury Exxon, VERC West Bridgewater Mobil, VERC Plymouth Mobil and VERC Plymouth Exxon for six weeks during the fall, with customers contributing change and bills totaling $1,554.19. Hughes and a good friend, Rosemary Wilbur, started things rolling by contributing about $60 of their own money.

"The response we received from our customers was great; people remarked often about what a good idea it was and how it felt good to be able to help," said Hughes. "And I can't say enough about Leo Vercollone's desire to match the money that was raised allowing us to contribute more than $3,400 to the Brockton unit of The American Red Cross."

Those funds were earmarked specifically for the Hurricane Katrina relief effort, with the recently presented check made out with that designation.

"Proud doesn't begin to describe the way we feel about this endeavor," said Vercollone. "Thanks to Barbara's idea, hers and the efforts of other staff members and the kindness of our customers, we were able to do something that will impact a number of people as they attempt to reclaim their lives. We were more than happy to match the funds raised for such a worthy cause."
