BENTONVILLE, Ark. -- Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has debuted a new convenience-store concept for its Supercenters. The two pilot locations are in Rogers, Ark., and Crowley, Texas.
The Crowley location opened on Jan. 24; the Rogers location opened Jan. 31. At 2,500 square feet, the stores are larger than the company’s previous fuel kiosks located in the parking lots of many of its Supercenters. The company has yet to name the concept.
Rather than just fuel and a small selection of snacks, candy and beverages, these new c-stores offer an expanded hot food, snack and beverage selection, soft serve ice cream as well as a full assortment of convenience merchandise, Wal-Mart spokesperson Anne Hatfield told CSP Daily News.
The stores each employ 12 people, and they are open daily from 5 a.m. until midnight, according to a report by The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. The gas pumps will operate 24 hours a day.
The company is also testing other c-store formats including Wal-Mart to Go in its home town of Bentonville, Ark., and Wal-Mart Pickup With Fuel in Madison, Ala., and Thornton, Colo.
