ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill. -- White Hen Pantry Inc. has opened a new location in Elk Grove Village, Ill. The new store offers White Hen's selection of gourmet coffees, a growing selection of natural and organic foods, fresh Just Toss It! green salads, its signature full-service deli and a toasted-to-order Hot & Fresh sandwich program with a touchscreen ordering system.
In addition, the new store has an adjacent White Hen Liquor Store with separate entrance but shared checkout.
White Hen also reported that it has additional stores [image-nocss] under construction with future openings as soon as late July. Ted Beilman, senior vice president of merchandising, said, Our new-store growth initiative is well under way, and we are pleased with our progress. We expect to open at least 10 new stores in 2006, and at least 15 new stores per year in 2007 and beyond.
Meanwhile, to promote its Just Toss It! salad program, White Hen has launched its First Toss at Wrigley Field contest to reward White Hen salad customers. White Hen and Pepsi have partnered for the month of June to reward a winner with throwing out the first pitch at a Cubs game later this year.
The retailer's new line of green salads is different from other salads in that the bed of lettuce is separated from the other ingredientsmeat, cheese, croutonswith a new packaging system. The packaging keeps the high moisture content ingredients separate from the bed of greens until the moment the customer is ready to toss and eat the salad.
The Just Toss It! salad line includes Asian Chicken, Chef, Cobb, Caesar and Trail Mix. The Asian Salad with mandarin oranges, chow mien noodles, sesame chicken and hot chili dressing is in stores now.
Also, to promote a new southwestern-themed lunch and breakfast sandwiches, White Hen recently conducted a Trip A Day In May Getaway contest. White Hen and Southwest Airlines partnered for the month of May to reward 31 winners with free trips. Every sandwich purchase provided a chance to win.
White Hen's new Chicken Flatbread Fajita Sandwich is toasted-to-order with chicken breast, jack cheese, roasted red peppers and southwestern sauce on a special flatbread. The Chicken Egg & Jack Burrito includes chicken breast, egg, jack cheese, roasted red peppers and southwestern sauce rolled in a low-carb tortilla.
