Zip Trip Picks Up Two Sites From Morris Marketing

RD's Party Shop, RD's Travel Stop in Butte, Mont., to covert to Cenex brand in March

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Cenex Zip Trip has purchased two locations from Morris Marketing Co., reported The Montana Standard. The sites are RD's Party Shop and RD's Travel Stop in Butte, Mont., RD's owner Roy Morris told the newspaper.

He will continue to operate Butte-based Morris Marketing Co. and own RD's Quick Fuel in Butte.

"We're not selling all of our businesses, and we're not leaving Butte," Morris said.

The Travel Stop will be close temporarily on March 5 to give the new owners time to transition to the next day. The Party Shop, which Morris bought 15 years ago, will reopen as Zip Trip on March 6.

Morris said the new company made a "generous offer," and he and his wife, Debbie, were ready to sell. "It was the right time for us to sell it. We're getting up in years," he said.

Morris said he has owned the Travel Stop location for 30 years, said the report.

Zip Trip management will retain the current employees, added the report.

St. Paul, Minn.-based CHS Inc., a leading energy and grain-based foods company, operates 70 Zip Trip convenience stores in Idaho, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Washington and Wyoming offering the company's Cenex fuel brand. All are known as Cenex Zip Trip, with marketing headquarters in Spokane, Wash., the largest metropolitan market for Cenex c-stores.
