Kangaroo Express Calls on Fayetteville to Personalize C-Store

Unveils Wall of Honor; invites artists to enter design contest for military appreciation mural

CARY, N.C. --Kangaroo Express said it is calling on the Fayetteville, N.C., community to help personalize its new military-themed convenience store. Personalized features include a "Wall of Honor" inside the store that will regularly recognize local service members and a military appreciation mural that local artists have the opportunity to design through a contest.

The chain recognized the first honoree, Corporal Cody Stanton, at a special ceremony at the store on March 12.

Cpl. Stanton deployed with 21st MP Company, 503rd MP BN, 16th MP Brigade, from Fort Bragg, N.C., in November 2011 to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Stanton, a Purple Heart recipient, sustained his injuries in January 2012 resulting in the amputation of both legs while training with Afghan Police outside Kandahar, Afghanistan, when an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated.

"The Wall of Honor is a reflection of Kangaroo Express' deep pride and admiration for local service members," said Paul Stoner, regional sales director for Kangaroo Express. "Our hope is that store guests who see this wall will take a moment to reflect on the sacrifices, and celebrate the accomplishments, of these local heroes, starting with Cpl. Stanton."

Additionally, the chain is inviting local Fayetteville-area artists to personalize the military appreciation mural on one of the store's exterior walls. Local artists interested in painting the mural should visit kangarooexpress.com/MuralContest to view dimension requirements and submit sketches of their concepts.

Entries are due on March 31 and a contest winner will be selected on April 30.

With more than half of its stores located within 25 miles of a military installation, Kangaroo Express has supported the military and their families for many years, including raising millions of dollars each year for military support organizations as part of its summer-long Salute Our Troops fundraising campaign.

In other news, Kangaroo Express has teamed up with Monster Energy to offer $60 worth of ticket savings to Carolina Rebellion fans as well as a chance to win the ultimate fan package. Concertgoers can unlock one of two specially priced weekend and single two-pack tickets with a discount code available at the checkout counter of participating Kangaroo Express stores, while supplies last.

Carolina Rebellion is a two-day music festival at the Rock City Campgrounds located at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C., and will run May 2 and 3. Founded in 2011, this year's festival features a lineup of more than 30 bands, including Korn, Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, Rise Against and more.

As of Jan. 29, 2015, The Pantry Inc., Cary, N.C., operated 1,509 convenience stores in 13 states under select banners, including its primary operating banner Kangaroo Express.
