Kroger, Shell Expand Loyalty Program to Toledo Area

Customers who accumulate 1,000 points can save up to $1/gallon up to 35 gallons
TOLEDO, Ohio -- The Kroger Co. has teamed up with Shell to give customers in the Toledo, Findlay and Mansfield, Ohio, areas the chance to earn fuel savings at the pump. The exclusive alliance provides Kroger shoppers the opportunity to save on fuels by using their Kroger Plus Card at their local Kroger stores.

Beginning November 1, every time Kroger customers in the greater Toledo, Findlay and Mansfield areas make a purchase with their Kroger Plus Card, they save money on their grocery bill and earn Fuel Points that can be used at the pump. Kroger customers have the opportunity [image-nocss] to instantly redeem up to 1,000 Fuel Points per visit to save up to $1 per gallon at Kroger Fuel Centers and participating Shell stations. This offer is valid up to 35 gallons of fuel per purchase.

Customers earn one Fuel Point for every dollar spent on most items when they use their Kroger Plus Card at participating Kroger stores. To help shoppers build up their savings quickly, additional Fuel Points can be earned by purchasing prescriptions or gift cards at Kroger. Customers earn 50 Fuel Points for each filled eligible prescription and two Fuel Points for every dollar spent on third-party gift cards from Kroger's in-store Gift Card Malls. Fuel Points will be automatically added to Kroger Plus Card accounts and will be reflected on customers' grocery receipt after every purchase. Customers also have the option of looking online on their "My Kroger" page at www.kroger.com to check how many Fuel Points they have earned.

Fuel Points must be used during the month they are earned or by the end of the following calendar month.

Customers may redeem their Fuel Points at Kroger Fuel Centers or participating Shell stations by using their Kroger Plus Card at the pump, manually entering their card number or entering their alternate ID, which will initiate the fuel savings.

Kroger company spokesperson Amy McCormick told The Toledo Blade that customers previously could redeem a discount of only 20 cents a gallon, and many had difficulty spending reward points before they expired. The Shell collaboration and discount increase are expected to allow more people to redeem points under the program, she added.

Jerry Peffer, wholesale area manager for Shell's Great Lakes region, said the partnership provides an additional incentive for customers to shop with the two companies. "They now are committed to Kroger because they can use their points at a Shell station," he told the paper.

Launched earlier this year, the Kroger fuel rewards program with Shell is rapidly garnering customer attention and adoption in the 49 markets where the program has been successfully rolled out. To date, more than 4,000 Shell stations across the country have launched the fuel rewards program and are active redemption centers for Kroger Fuel Points.

Beginning September 27, the fuel rewards program will provide customers in new areas around the country increased value for their money. The program will now include Houston, Seattle, Portland, Ore., Phoenix, Ariz., and Boise, Idaho, among other surrounding smaller outlying cities bringing the total number of markets with the fuel discount program to nearly 70 markets. The fuel rewards program will be available at Kroger, Fry's, Fred Meyer, QFC, King Soopers and City Market.

Kroger and Shell have previously rolled out the fuel rewards program in other key markets, including Cincinnati, Dallas, Detroit, Indianapolis, Jackson, Miss., Little Rock, Ark., Louisville, Ky., Nashville, Tenn., Raleigh, N.C., Richmond, Va., and San Diego. These markets included the Ralph's, Scott's, Owen's, Hilander, Jay C and Dillons as part of the Kroger family of stores.
