3 Convenience Items Make ‘Amazon Dash’ Top 10

What products, categories grabbed spots on best-seller list for online home delivery?

NEW YORK -- While household goods such as laundry pods, paper towels and toilet paper are the most popular items ordered via the Amazon Dash button, three top-selling convenience-store items—PepsiCo’s Gatorade, Kraft Heinz’s macaroni and cheese and Coca-Cola's smartwater—made a top-10 list of most-ordered items for home delivery, according to a data-analysis solutions firm.

Since introducing the palm-sized, Wi-Fi-connected devices last year, Seattle-based Amazon has been offering its Amazon Prime members the auto-replenishment service that allows customers to place reorders by pressing the brand-labeled buttons, according to officials with 1010data, New York.

Tide Pods from Procter & Gamble, Cincinnati, topped the list, but ranking No. 5 was Gatorade from Purchase, N.Y.-based PepsiCo. At No. 8 was Kraft Macaroni and Cheese from Kraft Heinz, Chicago, and at No. 10 was smartwater from Coca-Cola, Atlanta.

Other items that are also typically in c-stores, such as toilet paper, paper towels and trash bags did make the list, but traditionally have lower turns in the convenience channel.

Here’s the top-10 selling Dash Button items:

  1. Tide Pods and Powder, Procter & Gamble
  2. Bounty (paper towels), Procter & Gamble
  3. Cottonelle (toilet paper), Kimberly-Clark
  4. Glad Bags (garbage bags), Clorox
  5. Gatorade, PepsiCo
  6. Finish Dishwasher Detergent, Reckitt Benckiser
  7. Amazon Elements Baby Wipes, Amazon
  8. Kraft Macaroni and Cheese, Kraft Heinz
  9. Clorox Disinfecting Wipes, Clorox
  10. Smartwater, Coca-Cola

The Dash Button may eventually integrate with sensors in washing machines or printers to automatically reorder items as needed, 1010data officials said.

Covering May 2015 to January 2016, the study is based off 1010data’s Ecom Insights Panel, which the firm said consists of millions of online U.S. shoppers who allow anonymous tracking of their e-commerce activity.
