WAWA, Pa. -- As of Feb. 1, Wawa began offering online ordering for select Philadelphia-area locals through its mobile app while the service is tested. A Wawa spokesperson let Philadelphia magazine in on the news two days after the chain’s mobile app was updated.
Here is more information on Wawa’s new mobile-ordering capabilities and the chain’s strategy for the release ...
Mobile ordering has been enabled for customers who have previously shopped using their Wawa Rewards account at any of the chain’s Delaware County, Pa., stores, in addition to stores in parts of nearby Chester and Montgomery counties.
Customers don’t necessarily have to live near Philadelphia to gain access to the chain’s mobile-ordering features. As long as they have shopped at one of the eligible Philadelphia-area locations using their Wawa Rewards account, they should be able to place a mobile order to any Wawa location in the country on their mobile device. Wawa’s spokesperson did not say when mobile ordering will spread to more Wawa app users, but said that the chain is eager to expand the service “as soon as possible.”
In order to keep food orders fresh, Wawa will not make an order placed on its mobile platform until the customer is within a certain distance of the c-store. The chain’s spokesperson also said that the test phase will be used to collect customer feedback to inform the chain’s next moves on the mobile-ordering front.
