SEATTLE and AUSTIN, Texas -- Amazon and Whole Foods Market are adding natural and organic products from Whole Foods to Amazon Prime Now in select markets, with plans to expand to additional U.S. markets in 2018.
Beginning Feb. 8, Amazon Prime customers in Austin, Texas; Cincinnati; Dallas; and Virginia Beach, Va., will have access to Whole Foods products delivered via Amazon. Customers can shop at the Prime Now website or through the app for Android and iOS devices. The service is available from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
“We're happy to bring our customers the convenience of free two-hour delivery through Prime Now and access to thousands of natural and organic groceries and locally sourced favorites,” said John Mackey, Whole Foods Market co-founder and CEO. “Together, we have already lowered prices on many items, and this offering makes Prime customers’ lives even easier.”
A press release says Prime Now customers in the eligible markets will have access to “thousands” of Whole Foods products across multiple categories, including fresh and organic produce, bakery, dairy, meat and seafood, floral and everyday staples from Whole Foods Market available for free two-hour delivery. Select alcohol beverages are also available for delivery to customers. Prime members receive two-hour delivery for free and expedited delivery within one hour for $7.99 on orders of $35 or more.
7-Eleven products are already available through Amazon’s standard Prime subscription service, but not the two-hour-or-less Prime Now. 7-Eleven products include Big Gulp mugs, energy shots and 7-Eleven-branded snacks and merchandise.
Seattle-based Amazon has launched a bevy of services since its founding in 1994, including 1-Click shopping, personalized recommendations, Prime, Fulfillment by Amazon, Amazon Web Services, Kindle Direct Publishing, Kindle, Fire tablets, Fire TV, Amazon Echo, Alexa and more.
Austin, Texas-based Whole Foods Market has more than 470 stores in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, and was acquired by Amazon June last year.
