America's Gas Pump

Good Morning America segment uses Dresser Wayne fuel dispenser

AUSTIN, Texas -- ABC's Good Morning America (GMA) is using a Dresser Wayne Ovation iX fuel dispenser to keep viewers informed of gasoline prices, the petroleum equipment maker said.

The hosts tap into the gasoline pump's integrated 10.4-inch full-color video display to engage audiences in an animated illustration of how much motorists can expect to pay at different locations throughout the country. The demonstrations are part of GMA's weekly segments called "America's Gas Pump."

Part of the segment spotlights the U.S. cities with [image-nocss] the highest and lowest gasoline prices, as well as regional fuel prices. Hosts present the results using the pump's color screen. They display maps and use animated graphics to illustrate price trends by region.

The segments, which began on May 21, are scheduled to air one to two times per week until Labor Day Weekend, the end of the heavy summer automobile travel season.

When [GMA] approached us with the "America's Gas Pump" idea, we immediately knew that our gas pump would be a perfect way to incorporate still and video graphics into the segment, said D.P. Rabalais, director of North America marketing for Dresser Wayne. The Ovation iX fuel dispenser's unique interactive, multimedia capabilities enable at-the-pump news broadcasts, traffic updates and weather reports so it is a natural fit for ABC's purposes.

The Ovation iX fuel dispenser is situated on the first-floor set of the ABC studio located on Times Square in New York City. Times Square visitors and pedestrians are able to see the fuel dispenser on display when the show is on the air as well as during certain times of the day. More than five million viewers watch GMA every day, according to Dresser Wayne.

Austin, Texas-based Dresser Wayne is one of the largest business units of engineering products company Dresser Inc.
