ATASCADERO, Calif. -- Golden Gate Petroleum has recently unveiled a new 35.2kW solar electric system at its Shell Gas Station in Atascadero, Calif.
The system was designed and installed by REC Solar, a provider of residential and commercial solar electric systems. Golden Gate Petroleum's solar electric system will transform the roof of its Shell station in Atascadero into a state-of-the-art energy production site.
The system is composed of 160 SunPower SPR 220-watt panels, and it is expected to supply a significant percentage [image-nocss] of the station's overall electricity per year in clean renewable energy. This solar electric system will produce more than 50,204 kilowatt hours annually and will save the company thousands of dollars in energy costs, it said.
The solar electric system will offset close to two tons of greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide, each month, it added. By using the sun to power its operations, the company will offset conventional electricity production, most of which relies on the combustion of fossil fuels.
Many gas station owners are realizing that solar not only adds to the marketability of their station and sets them apart from their competitors; it also allows them to be part of the solution towards a more sustainable future, said Ryan Park of REC Solar. This system will allow Golden Gate Petroleum to control their electricity costs and save a significant amount of money while also setting an example as an industry leader in green practices.
Martinez, Calif.-based Golden Gate Petroleum is a multi-branded wholesale distributor and retailer of fuel and lubricants. Covering Northern California and Nevada from Ukiah to Paso Robles and over to Reno, it sells a number of products including bulk lubricants, diesel, race gas, propane, fuel oil, gasoline and biodiesel on a commercial/retail scale.
