Conexxus Honors C-Store Technology Pioneers

Dozier, Seki inducted into Hall of Fame for work in convenience-store automation

ANNAPOLIS, Md. --Two women involved in the early days of the convenience-store channel’s plunge into the age of automation became the latest inductees into the Conexxus Technology Hall of Fame, with the awards ceremony at the group’s annual conference.

The awardees, Ann Dozier, formerly with Atlanta-based Coca-Cola, and Ann Seki, formerly with San Ramon, Calif.-based Chevron Corp., were the focus of a recognition ceremony after the first full day of the five-day conference in late April in Annapolis, Md. The two had been active participants in committees designed to develop technology standards for the industry.

Seki received her award posthumously, as the former PCI (Payment Card Industry) program manager for Chevron passed away unexpectedly in her home a little over a year ago.

“Ann [Seki] made data security look sexy, getting the attention of the press and making us all look good,” said Phil Schwartz, information systems manager, Valero Energy Corp., San Antonio. “She was a visionary. We are all ahead of the game because of Ann.”

A colleague, Ron Hilmes of Chevron, accepted the award on behalf of Seki’s family.

Then Ann Zecca, the office manager with Conexxus, introduced the second awardee, Dozier, formerly with Coca-Cola. When she took the podium, Dozier said all the early technology pioneers were part of a “family,” people she could learn from and eventually “develop a legacy” with.

She said she was pleased to help bring resources to the channel’s technology efforts in the 1990s and ultimately add value to the industry.

Past inductees have included Scott Hartman of Rutter’s Farm Stores, York, Pa.; Jenny Bullard of Flash Foods, Waycross, Ga.; and John Hervey, formerly of the Conexxus forerunner, the Petroleum Convenience Alliance for Technology Standards (PCATS).

With its mission to promote technology efforts within the convenience-store channel, Conexxus is an advisory body to the nation’s largest convenience retailing association, the National Association of Convenience Stores, and like NACS, is based in Alexandria, Va.
