E-Z Mart Has Precidia in Its Pocket

Retailer leverages adapter for transactions, monitoring

TEXARKANA, Texas -- E-Z Mart Stores Inc., a convenience store and petroleum retailer with more than 300 stores spread throughout Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma, has chosen Precidia Technologies Inc.'s iPocket232 serial IP adapter to connect Ruby terminals and fuel tank monitoring devices to a broadband MPLS network from Cybera. This move has resulted in faster, more cost effective transaction processing for E-Z Mart as well as simplified fuel inventory management, the tech firm said.

Previously relying on dial-up lines to process transactions in its unbranded stores, E-Z Mart [image-nocss] has gained faster transactions at a lower cost by switching to Cybera's fully managed, PCI compliant SmartNetwork, the company added. Precidia's iPocket232 helped E-Z Mart realize immediate return on investment, it said—connecting the legacy Ruby payment terminal to the broadband network, with direct connections to several transaction processors.

"Compared to other available options, the iPocket232 was the most cost-effective route to fully networked payments," said Tom Withem, Information Resources Manager at Texarkana, Texas-based E-Z Mart. "The iPocket232 completed the network offering, ensuring that the benefits of broadband were realized at the point-of-sale, with faster transactions. In addition, we leveraged the technology to network Automatic Tank Gauge (ATG) controllers, eliminating telephone lines and onsite visits by technicians to troubleshoot and monitor fuel inventory levels."

Deepak Wanner, president of Ottawa, Ont.-based Precidia, said that at under $100, the iPocket232 is a cost-effective alternative to newer, broadband enabled payment terminals. "For many c-stores, this payment option justifies the cost of broadband network access. The ability to network other store equipment such as tank monitors, money order machines and video surveillance systems offers incremental benefit to the store," he said.

Precidia's c-store products also include the POSLynx220, which can connect 2 dial and 2 serial devices to broadband simultaneously, ideal for stores with dial equipment such as ATMs.

A designer and manufacturer of Internet Protocol (IP) payment and networking products, Precidia offers products designed for simple serial networking, as well as a suite that manages the complexity of IP-based payments in the retail industry. All of Precidia's products have been designed to maximize the potential of existing equipment, with deployment, monitoring, security and management tools.
