Freeway to the Future'

Sun Pacific Energy selects MegaPath for PCI-compliant broadband network, more
KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Sun Pacific Energy is deploying MegaPath Inc.'s fully managed security, Virtual Private Networks (VPN) and broadband services at more than 30 Sun Mart retail locations throughout Washington. Supporting the corporate Shell CoolBand initiative, MegaPath is enabling Sun Pacific Energy to reduce infrastructure and phone costs, while also increasing employee productivity and customer satisfaction.

"The Shell CoolBand initiative was designed to help decrease infrastructure costs while increasing transaction speeds, but MegaPath provides much more than that," [image-nocss] said Craig Eerkes, president of Sun Pacific Energy. "MegaPath completely manages all of our connectivity and security requirements, which will allow us to focus on customer satisfaction and other revenue generating areas of the business."

MegaPath is providing Sun Pacific Energy with a complete infrastructure to securely support all application and data communications requirements throughout all of its sites. The company's secure network infrastructure also gives Sun Pacific Energy fast, reliable and safe credit and debit card processing, which improves transaction times and customer satisfaction. In addition, MegaPath is enabling Sun Pacific Energy to eliminate multiple costly phone lines for each location by migrating key applications, including tank monitoring, backoffice systems and ATMs to the new broadband network.

Eerkes continued, "MegaPath is providing us with a freeway to the future. We are no longer locked into expensive satellite or dial-up systems, which limited our ability to roll out new systems. Now we can add new applications, such as video surveillance, and improve our customer service without worrying about the reliability of our network communications."

Powered by MegaPath, the Shell CoolBand Network provides broadband connectivity and integration services to support credit and debit card processing and all in-store applications through one secure and reliable high-speed network. Operators can also connect all their stores to headquarters over this private network, eliminating costly phone lines for ATMs, cash transfers, tank monitoring systems and other analog devices. Plus, users can upgrade to the latest point-of-sale (POS) systems with web-based reporting and inventory and labor management, as well as deploy applications such as video surveillance and digital signage all over a single broadband connection.

"The Shell CoolBand program delivers significant value to local Shell operators, allowing them to increase productivity and security without requiring significant new investments," said Dan Foster, senior vice president of sales at Costa Mesa, Calif.-based MegaPath. "We work closely with operators like Sun Pacific Energy to ensure that they are able to leverage the Shell network for all their critical applications as well as eliminate unnecessary and costly network, satellite and phone connections."

Sun Pacific Energy was founded in 1956 as Tri-City Oil Co. by Jerry Eerkes. Craig Eerkes purchased the company in 1981 and continued the growth in salaried and retail stores and successful dealer owned locations. In 1999, the company purchased the Northwind Group in western Washington, adding more than 50 dealers. Sun Pacific Energy offers a variety of ExxonMobil, Shell and Sprit brands coupled with lube, convenience store and car wash marketing.

MegaPath is a provider of managed IP communications services. It leverages a variety of broadband connectivity, VPN, Voice over IP (VoIP) and security technologies to enable businesses to lower costs, increase security and enhance productivity.
