Gas Station TV Chooses Hughes' Content

HughesNet will deliver customized news, weather, entertainment, ads

OAK PARK, Mich. -- Gas Station TV (GSTV) has selected Hughes Network Systems LLC as its digital signage satellite network provider to deliver entertainment, news, local weather and advertising to customers as they fuel up at the pump.

GSTV is a digital television network entertaining motorists with content from major media outlets such as ESPN and ABC, as well as local content such as weather updates, in-store and seasonal promotions, and third-party advertising. The nationwide network is designed to engage customers using 20-inch, high-brighted LCD [image-nocss] screens at the pump, driving increased return on investment for advertisers and increased sales for gas station retailers.

According to a study conducted by Nielsen Media Research (2006 Gas Station TV Network Pilot Audience Intercept Survey), 84% of respondents agreed that GSTV is a good source of product information, which the company said illustrates the added value that GSTV provides gasoline retailers in driving customers back into their convenience stores to take advantage of product offers and sales, and third-party advertisers to drive engagement for their offerings.

Hughes will manage the broadband satellite network, including remote installation and maintenance, and GSTV will manage the content, media players, screens and speakers. Content broadcasting is delivered over the HughesNet broadband satellite service.

GSTV currently operates in major markets such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta and Tampa, and it is expanding to San Francisco; Boston; Washington, D.C.; and Detroit by the end of the year.

Oak Park, Mich.-based Gas Station TV is an IP-based digital television network at the pump. Captive consumers are engaged for 4.5 minutes during their pump transactions. There is only one channel, no remote controls, DVRs or PC multitasking. GSTV provides a programming experience with select news and entertainment content from the ABC Television Network, sports from ESPN, as well as local weather to engage customers and enable marketers to connect with on-the-go consumers. The content, programmed for a highly desirable and captive audience, can be specifically tailored to geography and time of day.

GSTV is currently on more than 4,000 screens in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Detroit, and Tampa at select Chevron, ConocoPhilips, CITGO, Murphy USA, Speedway and Sunoco stations.

Germantown, Md.-based Hughes Network Systems is a global leader in providing broadband satellite networks and services for large enterprises, governments, small businesses and consumers. HughesNet encompasses all broadband solutions and managed services from Hughes, bridging the best of satellite and terrestrial technologies.
