Gilbarco Certifies FutureMedia Displays for Passport V6

V6 enhancements enable automatic software upgrade, more

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Gilbarco Inc. has certified a standard, direct interface from the Passport point-of-sale (POS) system to FutureMedia Displays electronic price signs. The interface enables retailers to instantly change fuel prices on outdoor signage and at the fuel dispensers from Passport Version 6.

Retailers improve efficiency, safety, and regulatory compliance by instantly changing pricing signage from inside the store, said Kirsten Paust, Gilbarco Veeder-Root's vice president of global retail systems. We continue to aggressively build solutions [image-nocss] so our customers can select from outstanding providers like FutureMedia Displays.

Shawna Mathieson, marketing manager for FutureMedia Displays, Dallas, said, Our signs offer a wide range of true digit sizes from 6-inches to 64-inches and a selection of digit fonts to match various image requirements. As the retail petroleum industry's only supplier specializing in LED fuel price signs, we see this as a huge opportunity to add value and address the specific needs of the Gilbarco customer base.

FutureMedia Displays manufactures the industry-leading PriceVision LED fuel price changers as well as custom information displays. PriceVision fuel displays offer high-definition digits and wide-angle viewing for all-weather readability. PriceVision's modular design provides extended product life and easy retrofitting and serviceability, the company said. In addition, FutureMedia offers direct connectivity to most POS systems.

Greensboro, N.C.-based Gilbarco Veeder-Root has upgraded its Passport software. Version 6 software helps retailers reduce downtime and costs when upgrading software. This new feature is combined with other features that are also part of the new V6 software, including loyalty program interfaces, PCI compliance and cash-based discounting.

The Automated Software Upgrade (ASU) feature in Passport V6 allows a retailer to complete a Passport software upgrade within 45 minutes without the need for outside assistance. This feature reduces errors and fully automates subsequent major and minor version upgrades. Enhanced system diagnostics and recovery features increase overall system uptime and lower the cost of ownership. The software, which is in field trial at 36 locations and on five different networks, will be released broadly to the public in August.

Other new features in Passport Version 6 software include a generic loyalty application programming interface, Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance, electronic price sign interface, cash-based fuel discounting, and a forced day close feature:

Generic Loyalty Application Programming Interface: Simplifies and standardizes third-party loyalty program compatibility with Passport. It enables any loyalty program to easily interface with Passport. The fully featured loyalty interface increases store traffic and enhances customer loyalty. PCI Compliance: strong encryption protects cardholder data and achieves compliance for the retailer in terms of data access, retention and reporting. Electronic Price Sign Interface: Iinstantly changes outdoor price signs, improving efficiency, safety and compliance. Gilbarco has certified a standard, direct interface from the Passport POS system to two popular electronic price sign providersPWM Electronic Price Signs and FutureMedia Displays. Cash-Based Fuel Discounting: Enables automatic fuel discounting both at the pump and POS for cash payment. The feature reduces credit card transaction fees and enhances loyalty among cash customers. Cash-based fuel discounting can be cumulative with discounts by card type and car wash to maximize customer rewards and retailer patronage. Forced Day Close: Enables retailers to use a programmable time for store close to improve control. The fully-automated process requires no user interaction. An alert system with programmable text eases employee transactions.

Gilbarco Veeder-Root and Gasboy are leading suppliers of integrated fuel control, site management, and support services for petroleum marketers and commercial fueling enterprises worldwide.
