Gilbarco Veeder-Root Develops 'Purchase@Pump'

Solution with Odysii technology allows retailers to sell store items at pump during fueling

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Gilbarco Veeder-Root is pioneering a new way to drive customers from the fuel island to the c-store, with what it said is an industry-first solution that enables them to purchase in-store merchandise during the fueling process. The technology promises to increase in-store traffic and sales, while decreasing transaction costs, it said.

"This partnership marks the future of the c-store," said Travis Bouck, vice president of marketing for North America at Gilbarco. "According to NACS data, nearly two-thirds of fueling customers leave without visiting the c-store. Now, idle time during refueling can be leveraged to maximize each and every customer visit."

Gilbarco's Encore dispenser line enables Purchase@Pump, which works with any point of sale system. When combined with the Odysii intelligent upselling system, Purchase@Pump is enhanced to optimize promotions based upon customer profile and transaction history, weather, time of day and retailer promotions, among other factors.

Bouck added, "Our goal is to drive fueling customers into the store and make it easy for loyal c-store shoppers to buy their favorite items. As an added benefit, Purchase@Pump is a one card-swipe transaction, which means our retailers see a lower transaction fee."

Adi Eyal, co-founder and CEO of Odysii, said, "The large-screen format of the Gilbarco Encore 700 S allows Odysii to deliver rich multi-media promotions to maximize sales."

Woburn, Mass.-based Odysii is a global provider of marketing intelligence software solutions for one-on-one marketing and suggestive selling at the point-of-purchase. It is a software-as-a-service (SaaS)-based solution that delivers targeted selling for retailers.

In other company news, retailers can now retrofit Encore and The Advantage dispensers with the leading EMV-certified payment system and large color screens through Gilbarco Veeder-Root's new line of FlexPay II Retrofit Kits. When bundled with Gilbarco's Applause TV with Outcast, preferred pricing and no-cost options are available for qualified sites.

FlexPay II Retrofit Kits are available in large and small color screen versions. Both models are designed to integrate seamlessly into the dispenser using Encore 700 S technology, creating a stronger brand presence to spark greater site traffic, drive in-store sales and improve customer loyalty.

In addition to giving retailers a jump on the 2017 deadline for EMV certification, FlexPay II Retrofit Kits better position retailers for future regulations and advancements in loyalty, mobile payment, as well as Gilbarco's Applause TV and new Purchase@Pump programs. The modular design includes provisions for future peripheral upgrades, and the platform provides the industry's most robust payment technology with the highest processing speed and RAM.

Using the same CRIND electronics as the Encore 700 S, these retrofit kits provide the latest payment security technologies with EMV- and PCI-UPT certifications as standard features, while delivering a media platform designed to increase sales and a simpler upgrade path to meet evolving technology and security needs.

Gilbarco Veeder-Root is a worldwide technology leader for retail and commercial fueling operations. It offers a broad range of integrated solutions from the forecourt to the convenience store and head office.
