GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Gilbarco said that its FlexPay Encrypting PIN Pad (EPP) enables retailers to process Triple Data Encryption Standard (TDES) debit transactions at the pump with only a PIN pad replacement.
Payment Card Industry (PCI) standards require retailers who accept debit to have encrypting PIN pads installed at the pump by July 2010 to avoid penalties.
Gilbarco's modular approach saves the average retailer with five dispensers an estimated $15,000 per site compared to card reader in dispenser (CRIND) replacement, an approach that retailers have no reason to undertake, the [image-nocss] company said.
"The Gilbarco solution was easy to install and has worked well," said Paul L. Separk, vice president of operations for MM Fowler Inc./Family Fare C-Stores. "Keeping the regulatory approvals, warranty and service providers for the dispensers in place is important to us. We want our customers to continue to be able to use debit at the dispensers and find this a cost-effective way for us to do so."
The company installed the Gilbarco Encrypted PIN Pads at its Coliseum Shell station in Greensboro, N.C. The Durham, N.C.-based company is a major independent gasoline and convenience store operators in North Carolina.
The Gilbarco Encrypting PIN Pads are designed to comply with both the physical and logical security standards adopted by PCI, protecting consumers and retailers from debit fraud. The Encrypting PIN Pads are available factory-installed on Gilbarco Encore S dispensers or as field retrofits for the retailer's installed base.
