Hello 'Helix'

Wayne introduces new global dispenser line

AUSTIN, Texas -- Wayne, a global manufacturer of fuel dispensers and technologies, introduced the Wayne "Helix" fuel-dispenser line, pointing out its "intelligent" design, transaction security and advanced technology.

Working closely with customers, retailers and users from around the world, makers of the dispenser line said it's "a global platform on which all future Wayne dispenser models will be based."

Three Helix fuel-dispenser models, designed to fulfill a wide variety of forecourt needs, are available at launch: the Helix 2000, the Helix 4000 and the Helix 5000. Wayne will introduce the Helix 6000 in 2013.

[imaMeanwhile, in other Wayne-related news, the company announced a milestone in the shipment of its 10,000th fuel dispenser equipped with the Wayne "Xflo" fuel meter. Officials said typical fuel meters tend to "drift" and lose accuracy over time through normal wear and tear. Meter drifting many times results in the dispensing of small amounts of extra fuel in each customer's tank. The Xflo fuel meter combines engineering and design to help hold its calibration, giving less fuel away as a result, officials said.

Commenting on the milestone, Lou Smith, Wayne North America dispenser product manager, said, "Hitting the 10,000th Xflo meter milestone is clear evidence that Xflo is making a difference. It has become the preferred solution for retailers who used to rely solely on recalibration as the only option to combat meter drift."

With regards to the new Helix dispenser line, Austin, Texas-based Wayne and Palo Alto, Calif.-based IDEO, an industrial design firm, worked together to conduct global market research and created Helix with insights from customers, motorists and service companies.

"From the excellence of our global engineering teams to our collaboration with IDEO, this is a unique family of dispensers designed and engineered based on feedback from retailers and their customers all over the world," said Neil Thomas, global president of Wayne. "The Helix dispenser is the fuel dispenser redesigned and reconceived--from the inside out, and from the bottom up."

The new dispenser line's components, metering and materials deliver an appealing fueling experience, using advanced fuel-dispensing technology in a practical package.

"The Helix dispenser line represents a big step in the progression of forecourt fueling, because this is a product that addresses the needs of all users of the product over its lifetime," said Paul de la Port, Wayne vice president of products. "Our research, conducted on four continents, told us that we would miss opportunities by designing for only one stakeholder in one region of the world."

Key features of the Helix fuel dispenser include:

  • Iconic look and universal design: Elements will set the stage for worldwide recognition and a consistent, reliable fueling experience.
  • Enhanced displays: High-contrast, ergonomically designed displays (including angled price displays above push-to-start buttons) are clearly labeled and easy for users to see, both day and night.
  • Strong retail branding: Expanded branding and signage areas are visible to motorists from multiple angles.
  • Secure Dispenser Components: Modular compartments lock independently, with a "U-frame" that inhibits unauthorized access to the electronic head.

Wayne was a part of Fairfield, Conn.-based GE's 2011 acquisition of Dresser Inc. and designs, manufactures and services forecourt-fueling solutions.
