Hervey to Retire from PCATS in '09

Industry tech alliance seeks new executive director

ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- John C. Hervey, currently serving as executive director of the Petroleum Convenience Alliance for Technology Standards (PCATS), will be retiring on Jan. 31, 2009, Devin Bates, the alliance's chairman, has announced.

"This is another example of John's great leadership and commitment to the PCATS organization. The personnel committee requested that when he decided to retire John give it sufficient time to seek a new director. He has done this by giving us more than a year's notice. We will now begin the difficult task of seeking a replacement [image-nocss] for John," said Bates.

The alliance has scheduled its annual strategic planning meeting for Dec. 10 and 11, 2007, and Bates added, "As we begin this year's meeting, the subject of the kind of individual we want to replace John will definitely be on the agenda." He said anyone interested in applying for the position should send an email to him at devin.bates@tcfs.com.

Hervey has been the executive director of the alliance since its inception and will have completed more than five years in that capacity at the time of his retirement. He has had a long and varied career in the petroleum and convenience industry. Prior to becoming executive director of PCATS, he served as chief technology officer for the National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS), was a consultant on the staff of Gerke & Associates, served as director of IT for Minit Mart Foods in Bowling Green, Ky., and spent 25 years at Mobil Oil Corp. in a variety of positions.

Alexandria, Va.-based PCATS is composed of more than 160 members representing major companies, both supplier and retailer, in the petroleum marketing and convenience industry. PCATS mission is to develop, maintain and help members implement a variety of technology standards.
