CALGARY, Alberta -- Imperial Oil Ltd. has awarded a five-year contract to VendTek Systems Inc., a provider of automated transaction systems software, to provide Imperial's Esso On the Run convenience stores with prepaid products and services. VendTek will continue to manage the prepaid category for the On the Run stores after the technology firm's current contract expires in October 2008.
Vancouver, B.C.-based VendTek was previously recognized by Esso's Supplier Excellence Program in 2006.
Doug Buchanan, president and chief executive officer of VendTek, said, "We are extremely pleased [image-nocss] that we have been awarded this contract. We believe that our strong working relationship and our superior technology contributed to the success of our bid for Imperial Oil's business."
Calgary, Alberta-based Imperial Oil is one of Canada's largest producers of crude oil and natural gas, is the largest petroleum refiner, and it has a leading market share in petroleum products sold through a coast-to-coast supply network that includes approximately 1,900 gas stations.
VendTek develops and licenses automated transaction system software and supporting technologies that improve the efficiency of product delivery, reduce costs to clients and offer superior safety measures. VendTek's customers, its Now Prepay division and its subsidiaries are using e-Fresh software to build electronic, prepaid services networks, which enable consumers to purchase prepaid services via point-of-sale (POS) and self-serve terminals connected to a central e-Fresh server. e-Fresh reduces shrinkage and inventory requirements while improving consumer access to prepaid services by completely eliminating physical cards and vouchers, the company said.
In other Imperial Oil news, on September 13, the sixth annual Esso United Way Day will take place at 500 Esso sites across Canada. One cent for every liter of gasoline pumped and $1 from each car wash sold that day will be donated to United Way organizations across Canada.
In 2007, this one-day event raised more than $150,000 from fuel and carwash sales alone for United Way in Canada, the company said. Esso United Way Day is one component of Imperial Oil's overall national United Way campaign, which raised more than $3 million last year.
