New Chief Technology Officer at Yesway

Former Tedeschi CIO joins fledgling c-store chain

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Convenience-store chain Yesway has named Douglas New as its chief technology officer.

New most recently served as chief information officer (CIO) at Tedeschi Food Shops Inc., a Rockland, Mass.-based convenience business. While CIO at Tedeschi, he developed technology strategy and oversaw all IT-related activities and support services for 181 stores and 2,300 employees.

Prior to joining Tedeschi, New worked at Putnam Investments for 11 years in multiple roles related to technology engineering and operations, most recently as senior vice president and director of site operations.

New will be responsible for mapping and implementing Yesway’s technology strategy, and his duties include defining the execution plan for Yesway’s e-commerce platform.

He will report directly to Mark Daniels, the firm’s chief strategy officer.

New’s experience in the c-store industry will help Yesway move toward its goal of acquiring 500 stores in the next several years, the company said.

“Douglas brings a wealth of convenience-store operations expertise to the Yesway brand, and I look forward to working with him to execute our technical strategies during a time of tremendous growth at Yesway,” said Thomas Nicholas Trkla, Yesway’s chairman and CEO. “I will count on Douglas to be Yesway’s technology voice at the highest levels of business and product planning, and I, along with the rest of our senior management team, will rely on his insights and recommendations on technology feasibility, staffing, processes and other technology-related decisions as we continue our expansion in the coming years.”

BW Gas & Convenience, doing business as Yesway, is based in Des Moines, Iowa. It is the c-store unit of Beverly, Mass.-based Brookwood Financial Partners LLC. The company acquired 31 c-stores from West Des Moines, Iowa-based Kum & Go LC in July.
