Oberthur Gets Contactless Sticker Certification

Flybuy sticker now available to Discover's Card issuers
CHANTILLY, Va. -- Oberthur Technologies' contactless sticker product, FlyBuy Sticker, has been granted type approval by Discover Financial Services, a leading U.S. credit card issuer and global electronic payment services company. Discover's type approval process ensures that the Discover Zip contactless payment application properly operates on the FlyBuy Sticker and that it is also interoperable with Discover-certified payment terminals.

Oberthur Technologies, a major provider of smart card-based solutions and contactless provider, created the FlyBuy Sticker, a contactless [image-nocss] payment device that can be attached to any surface including a mobile phone, PDA, MP3 player or key ring. To pay, the cardholder simply needs to place the device with the Sticker attached in front of the contactless reader. The FlyBuy Sticker can be used at any Point-of-Sale terminal accepting contactless including Discover Zip, Discover's contactless payments feature.

Discover's credit, debit and prepaid issuers may now use FlyBuy Sticker for their contactless sticker programs. The approval has already prompted Discover payments acquirer, Heartland Payment Systems, to partner with Oberthur Technologies on product rollouts scheduled for early 2010.

"The FlyBuy Sticker offers Discover card issuers a way to deliver mobile contactless payments to their customers today, said Farhan Ahmad, general manager, prepaid and director of emerging payments for Discover. "Because contactless stickers are produced using existing card fulfillment platforms, issuers can begin building the foundation for their mobile payments solution, while bringing their card to the top of wallet and capturing everyday spend."

New Albany, Ohio-based Discover Financial Services operates the Discover card, among other financial products. Its payments businesses consist of Discover Network, with millions of merchant and cash access locations; PULSE, one of the nation's leading ATM/debit networks; and Diners Club International, a global payments network with acceptance in 185 countries and territories.

Oberthur Technologies, Chantilly, Va., is a leader in the field of secure technologies. Its main target markets include card systems (it is a major provider of security and identification based on smart card technology and associated services for mobile, payment, transport, digital TV and convergence markets); identity (it is a manufacturer of personalized secure identity documents such as passport, identity card, driving license or health care cardtraditional and electronicand associated services for both governmental and corporate markets); security printing (it is a security printer for the production of banknotes, checks and other fiduciary documents); and cash protection (it is a leader in the emerging market of intelligent systems to secure cash-in-transit and ATM).
