People Who Drive the 'Internet of Things'

Acumera promotes Yemington to VP of sales, marketing

AUSTIN, Texas -- Acumera, a provider of "trusted connection services" for convenience stores, has announced the promotion of Thomas Yemington to vice president of sales and marketing.

In this newly created position, Yemington is responsible for direct and channel sales, marketing and promotional activities, as well as creation and development of new products and services.

"From product development and management to branding and customer relationships, Tom has strong grounding in the skills essential to managing Acumera's current growth and building the team that will capitalize on additional marketplace opportunities," said Dirk Heinen, CEO. "Most importantly, he has a service heart and is focused on helping customers solve problems."

Yemington's first points of focus will be on extending Acumera's leadership position in managed services for the c-store "Internet of Things" (devices embedded in goods, objects), and support of c-store executives and their information technology teams in bringing key devices within their retail operations into a single, integrated platform that is compliant with stringent security standards.

C-store management and ownership are embracing the notion of integrating their equipment directly with business intelligence systems, the company said. It began with connecting automatic tank gauges, growing to typically include more than a dozen devices that gather and send useful marketing, operations and maintenance information to headquarters and third-parties.

"Acumera's PCI-compliant Trusted Connection Services go beyond point-to-point managed network services by making the 'Internet of Things' pay off for our customers: getting things connected, keeping them connected and providing information from those things for customer business intelligence systems, while meeting or exceeding best practices in information security," said Yemington. "In short, Acumera integrates and manages the c-store's 'Internet of Things' to securely and dependably deliver actionable information to management."

Yemington started his career with Intel Corp., where he worked for 15 years in a series of sales and marketing capacities. There, he supported the developing business of a variety of Intel's OEM customers, including Compaq, Dell, Gateway, Lenovo, Motorola, Panasonic, Samsung and Sony. Notably, he lead the team that brought to market a 3G machine-to-machine application on the DoCoMo network in Japan in 2005. His portfolio of experience also includes work for several startup companies in the cellular, information management and semiconductor industries.

Founded in 2002, Acumera provides trusted connection services to multi-site merchants, specializing in the reduction of problems caused by network management and security issues. Customers are free to focus on running their businesses because Acumera actively manages their networks and provides visibility and remote management capability. Acumera gets customers' stores, network clients and devices securely connected and keeps them connected, it said. In addition to network status, merchants have real-time insight into key operational measures, such as fuel inventory levels and environmental and food safety temperatures.
