Reverse Auctions Pay Off for Sheetz

Retailer reports ten-fold ROI

ALTOONA, Pa.-- Category One (C1), a provider of reverse auction and eRFX services and technology, and convenience-store-operator Sheetz Inc. have reached and exceeded a savings milestone through the application of Category One's sourcing technology. Sheetz has reached more than a ten-fold return on its investment in eSourcing technology and practices.

The Category One e-sourcing process and technology has been in place for over three years, and the results continue to grow, said Bill Ruggles Sr., purchasing manager at Sheetz. Category One has helped [image-nocss] us identify the key categories and provided us with leading edge auction technology. The result has exceeded our expectations. What is astounding is that it continues to deliver year after year.

Sheetz is clearly the role model for both the convenience and foodservice industries. Their commitment to great food, fast service and broad selection requires a streamlined procurement process. It also requires a great supply chain, said Joe Buchanan, managing director with Category One. Sheetz is a power user of our tools in every sense, from screening suppliers for safety and testing compliance, to negotiating low costs on store supplies. Their return on investment is impressive to say the least.

Established by Bob Sheetz as a single store in 1952, Altoona, Pa.-based Sheetz Inc. is one of America's fastest growing family-owned and -operated convenience-store chains, with more than $3.8 billion in revenue in 2006 and more than 11,000 employees. The company operates 339 convenience locations throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio and North Carolina.

Based near Los Angeles, Category One was formed in 2003 by supply chain and technology leaders to focus on delivering e-sourcing expertise to several verticals, including grocery, convenience, logistics and food. Category One maintains thousands of vendor contacts in the verticals they support. The Category One technology is provided on a SaaS (Software as a Service) basis, on either a full or self-service basis.
