Sheetz Expands Analytic Intelligence Capacity

Upgrades to Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance

ALTOONA, Pa. -- Sheetz Inc. has selected Teradata Corp.'s Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance. This will be a straight migration from the data mart appliance previously installed, which will serve as a test and development system. The new data warehouse appliance will further increase data management capacity at the convenience store chain, known for its food, technology and customer service.

Altoona, Pa.-based Sheetz continues to grow its network of stores and the need for more complex analytics is increasing. It uses analytics software from Teradata and other data mining [image-nocss] and business intelligence partners to analyze market basket content, product affinity and merchandising. Among these is the multi-touch marketing intelligence tool, Teradata Relationship Manager, an enterprise marketing management portfolio.

"We believe the economics and performance of the new platform to be a wise investment in our own business future as well as in the advanced technology we need to support our vision."

The Teradata Purpose-Built Platform Family is designed for industries including retail, hospitality, manufacturing and entertainment. Teradata's range of data appliances allow companies of all sizes and complexity to start small and grow, the company said.

"Sheetz started with a competitive system, moved to the Teradata Data Mart Appliance and now has seamlessly implemented a data warehouse appliance, which can deliver the power and insight they need to get them everywhere they want to go. It is a big step into the world of enterprise-class data warehousing."

Delivered ready to run, the Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance is a fully integrated platform that is dssigned for data warehousing. The data appliance features the Teradata Database, a Teradata platform with quad core Intel processors, SUSE Linux operating system and enterprise-class storage, all preinstalled into a power-efficient unit. That means companies can have the system up and running live in just a few hours for rapid time to business value, said the company.

Dayton, Ohio-based Teradata offers data warehousing, consulting services and enterprise analytics.

Sheetz, with more than $3.9 billion in revenue for 2007 and more than 11,000 employees, operates 350 convenience locations throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio and North Carolina. It provides a menu of MTO (Made-To-Order) subs, sandwiches and salads, which are ordered through unique touchscreen order point terminals. Sheetz convenience stores are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
