Fuel supplier implements DTN services

OMAHA, Neb. -- DTN, a business-to-business provider of transaction management and real-time market information services, said Sprague Energy has implemented the DTN suite of real-time downstream supplier supply chain solutions including DTN Exchange, DTN FastRacks and DTN Guardian3.

By leveraging electronic transaction and supply data from DTN, Portsmouth, N.H.-based Sprague Energy can streamline operations and realize companywide benefits, DTN said.

Working with DTN has helped us realize greater efficiency in areas like trading, [image-nocss] hedging, forecasting, customer management, marketing and customer communications, said David Daoust, manager Sprague Real Time.

DTN Exchange powers Sprague Energy's new branded Real Time pricing desktop. Now Sprague Energy can deliver updated pricing information to customers, with features and functionality designed to help improve price risk management. Also, electronic transaction data helps Sprague Energy improve overall forecasting and supply management.

DTN FastRacks electronic rack price discovery reports are sent to Sprague Energy to keep them abreast of the competition. Price information is subjected to quality control checks and reviews throughout the day to ensure accurate data and reliability. DTN FastRacks reports show each supplier's price along with price summaries and averages covering 280 products at more than 1,200 terminals in 360 U.S. and Canadian cities.

DTN Guardian3 (DTN G3) terminal automation system gives Sprague Energy an at-a-glance view of terminal activity. Load and driver activity is logged to help identify and correct any problems that develop within the loading process. The DTN G3 makes it easy for Sprague Energy personnel to export customized reports to e-mail, so that customers get copies of bill of lading as soon as they are available. Electronic data streamlines supply management throughout the Sprague Energy organization.

Founded in 1870 as a distributor of coal and oil, Sprague Energy is a leading independent supplier of energy products and materials handling services in the Northeast. It has a network of 20 terminals combined with throughput and exchange arrangements at 85 other facilities. Through its owned terminals, the company also provides bulk and break bulk handling services to a variety of industries. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Axel Johnson Inc., a member of the Axel Johnson group of Stockholm, Sweden.
