TEMPLE, Texas -- Officials with PDI elaborated on the purchase of its chief rival’s enterprise retail solution, saying that the rest of The Pinnacle Corp.’s products—point-of-sale (POS), payments, loyalty and mobile app—“are not core to our overall strategy.”
Officials with Temple, Texas-based PDI said their purchase of Pinnacle’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution included all intellectual property as well as its development and support resources. PDI will add these solutions to its software offerings for retail automation, fuel supply chain, business intelligence and workforce management, the company said.
Commenting on how PDI products will evolve as a result, Jimmy Frangis, CEO of PDI, told CSP Daily News that the addition of Pinnacle’s ERP solution “will expand PDI’s software and services offerings.”
Frangis said about 125 Pinnacle convenience-store-retail and fuel-management clients are “now PDI customers, and they can expect the same level of quality service.”
When asked why PDI did not purchase Pinnacle’s POS, payments, loyalty and mobile-app elements, Frangis said, “POS solutions are not core to our overall strategy and therefore were not part of the acquisition.”
He said that acquiring Pinnacle’s ERP assets “will provide our customers with one of the broadest, most comprehensive enterprise offerings in the convenience-retail space.”
Bob Johnson, CEO of Pinnacle, Arlington, Texas, told CSP Daily News, “By transitioning [our] fuel and retail solutions products to PDI, Pinnacle is able to devote our resources to the continued enhancement of our highly acclaimed Palm Point of Sale solution and our LoyalLink loyalty platform. We are very excited about what this means for our Affiniti mobile platform for consumer engagement with our retail clients.”
A source close to the sale who requested anonymity told CSP Daily News that key officials will be shifting from Pinnacle to PDI to coordinate the transition.
The companies did not disclose terms of the transaction.
