WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Travel plazas and convenience store operator WILCOHESS LLC has signed an agreement for and is now deploying the Stampede Application Acceleration Series from Dayton, Ohio-based Stampede Technologies Inc., a provider of WAN optimization and application acceleration solutions. With this solution, WILCOHESS said it expects to improve response times to online users in remote store locations, as well as reduce overall bandwidth use, avoiding a costly network upgrade.
The Stampede Application Acceleration Series is a two-sided hardware/software acceleration solution (commonly [image-nocss] referred to as a Software WAN Optimization Controller, or Soft WOC) for maximizing performance and bandwidth use of enterprise applications. Stampede's Soft WOC approach employs performance-enhancing technologies such as TurboStreaming (for accelerating compressed or encrypted objects), SSL Client-side Termination (for accelerating SSL transactions), Intelligent Cache Differencing, Image Transformation, CIFS Acceleration, Connection Management and Load Balancing, providing significant performance enhancement. These optimization technologies support traditional HTTP/HTTPS, legacy TCP and the emerging Web 2.0/AJAX application environments.
The Stampede solution accelerates a diverse population of end-user devices, including those using Windows Mobile. In addition, Stampede's Acceleration On-Demand client technology is the first client technology to be automatically injected into the responses sent to the end user, without the need to install software at the client.
A key acceleration technology for the WILCOHESS environment is Stampede's Content Pre-Caching feature. With Content Pre-Caching, WILCOHESS can define important documents that can be "pre-cached" to end users during off hours. This ensures that when users access the document for the first time, response time is almost instantaneous since it is retrieved from the user's cache instead of over the network.
Winston-Salem, N.C.-based WILCOHESS—a joint venture partner between A.T. Williams Oil Co. and New York City-based Hess Corp.—operates more than 340 stores and nearly 50 restaurants. The Hess flag is now flying over Wilco stores in seven states. The company continues to build new facilities and reinvest in existing stores.Members help make our journalism possible.
