In its part of the country, mainly West Virginia, GoMart is what people think of when they think convenience store. It has grown from 16 stores in 1980 to 124 in 2015, and most of the original 16 have been rebuilt. In 2013-2014, the company purchased two stores, built one new store and rebuilt two existing units.

Store footprints vary, with only a quarter of them the same. About half of the sites sell diesel fuel and 12 have fueling stations for truckers.

The customer base is working-class people employed in the timber, coal and natural-gas industries. Competition includes Sheetz, Speedway, Little General, 7-Eleven and Par Mar.

During a recent remodel process, the chain added 28 beer caves for a total of 32.

The chain now focuses on remodeling existing stores, building new stores and acquiring new ones.
