Town Pump was founded in 1953 by Tom Kenneally Sr., who began the business as full-service gas stations. His vision expanded into offering convenience stores in the 1980s in response to customer demand for more groceries, deli and other services.
Today, Town Pump locations specialize in fresh deli-prepared foods along with an expansive selection of drinks. The chain offers a Super Deli, Deli or Mini Deli, depending upon location size. Super Delis offer ready-to-eat hotdogs, cold deli sandwiches, burritos, corn dogs, fried chicken, pizza, hamburgers and a variety of finger foods. Breakfast items include biscuits and gravy, muffins, sandwiches and burritos. The chain also added foot-long subs to its deli menu to expand on the already wide variety of fresh-made sandwiches.
More recent menu additions include meatloaf, which customers can heat up at home, along with more fresh food such as made-in-house salads, wraps, fresh fruits and veggies.
Town Pump fountains offer 16 to 20 heads and flavor shots, as well as frozen drinks and dispensed tea. The chain added f'real milkshakes in 2012, with about 60 stores carrying the product. Stores offer foodservice from Denny’s, McDonald’s, Subway and Arby’s. Stores also offer a wide variety of services, including casinos at a few sites.
The company has 29 truckstop locations, including some branded Pilot Flying J and some branded Pilot. The truckstops are considerably larger than the c-stores, up to 13,000 square feet. Expansion in 2015 included two new stores and numerous remodels.
