United Refining's c-store chains Country Fair and Kwik Fill/Red Apple are market leaders in the territories they serve, offering a competitive advantage in foodservice. United is also an independent refiner and marketer of petroleum products, and parent company of convenience stores in Pennsylvania and portions of Ohio and New York. The company, based in Warren, Pa., operates more than 350 retail outlets, including service station/convenience stores, truck stops, restaurants, and garages. The c-stores are branded Kwik Fill/Red Apple Food Marts and Country Fair. Each is a separate retail division, operated independently, with separate company headquarters and management staffs. While both retail divisions use Tripifoods as the wholesale supplier, purchasing is done separately. Kwik Fill/Red Apple has 287 stores. Country Fair has 72 stores. A major focus for the chain continues to be foodservice. Key competitors of Country Fair are Sheetz and Wawa. Major competitors of Kwik Fill include Dollar Stores, Sheetz, GetGo and Speedway (formerly Hess). United also operates a refinery and produces fuel for cars, trucks, airplanes, and farm and construction equipment, as well as homes and industries. The company also has a trucking operation, terminal operations, and an asphalt terminal.
