Western Refining is one of the nation’s largest independent oil refiners and has been publicly traded on the NYSE since January 2006. Company operations include three business segments: refining, retail and wholesale. Prior to the 2007 acquisition of Giant Industries, the company operated as one business segment, refining. Today, refining headquarters are in El Paso, Texas; the retail and administrative headquarters are in Tempe, Ariz.

The company operates primarily in the Southwest, with refineries in Texas and New Mexico and refined-products terminals in New Mexico and Arizona. In November 2013, primarily in a move to expand its refining operations, Western Refining acquired ownership interest in Northern Tier Energy LP from ACON Investments and TPG Capital.

The retail division of Western Refining is Western Refining Southwest Inc.
