WEST QUINCY, Mo. -- Niemann Foods Inc. held the grand opening recently for Haymakers in West Quincy, Mo., the grocer's first convenience store under the newly created banner Haymakers, reported The Herald-Whig.

It replaces a former County Market Express, said the report.

“We completely remodeled the entire space,” Gerry Kettler, director of consumer affairs for Niemann Foods, told the newspaper. “We spent over $3 million just on this one facility.”

He continued, “It’s a whole new experience in West Quincy. We have all-new gas pumps, all-new lighting, all-new everything.”

Haymakers focuses on freshly prepared foods.

“It’s the future of convenience stores as we see it,” Kettler said. “It’s food-centric.”

Haymakers offers a variety of food options, including soups, a potato bar, deli-made sandwiches and other popular food offerings such as fried chicken.

“It’s an upgraded food experience,” said Kettler. “Even the coffee has been upgraded.”

There is an adjacent Subway location on the site.

In addition to a total revamp of the foodservice area, Niemann Foods carried out a major overhaul of the fueling area outside, said the report. The company installed new fuel pumps, as well as hand sanitizer dispensers, music and new lighting.

“It’s an upgraded fueling experience,” Kettler said.

The property also features more parking, the report said.

The company plans additional Haymakers sites, said the newspaper.

Niemann Foods, founded in 1917, is based in Quincy, Ill. It is an associate-owned company operating in Illinois, Missouri, Iowa and soon Indiana. The company operates more than 100 retail locations including County Market supermarkets, Save-A-Lot grocery stores, Harvest Market, County Market Express and Pick a Dilly convenience stores, Pet Supplies Plus and Ace Hardware stores.
