CHICAGO — Cannabidiol (CBD)-infused products are taking off in convenience stores in many forms—including beverages.
And while there are still some questions on when or if the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will release regulations that would provide a pathway for ingestible products, some retailers are giving them a try.
Here are four companies producing sparkling or still CBD water ...
Sparkling CBD, Denver, is introducing its first line of CBD waters founded by Moose Koons and Andrew Fulton. The new beverages come in Sparkling Citrus Water and Sparkling Hibiscus Water. CBD soda flavors come in Black Cherry, Cola, Ginger Ale, Lemonade and Root Beer.
"Our customers kept asking us for a 0-calorie option, so we set out to craft some great tasting sparkling CBD waters," said Andrew Fulton, co-founder of Rocky Mountain Soda. "It can be difficult to make things with no sweeteners taste good, especially with hemp extracts, so it's all about sourcing high-quality ingredients and letting them shine. That's exactly what we've done with these Sparkling CBD waters.”
The new waters are made with 20 milligrams of broad-spectrum hemp extract and natural flavors. The drinks are made with no carbs, sugar or sodium and are vegan, kosher and gluten-free, the company said.
Refresh Sparkling Water, a CBD infused sparkling water from Verde Leaf, has zero calories, zero carbohydrates and contains Vitamin C.
Initial Refresh Sparkling Water flavors are Berry, Citrus, Cucumber Lime and Tropical. The drinks will be available in fall 2020 in c-stores, grocery chains and retailers across the United States.
Verde Leave, Atlanta, is a vertically integrated hemp company. It works with farmers to help with license acquisition, hemp cultivation and processing.
The Alkaline Water Co. is launching a new CBD water under the brand A88CBD.
The water will come in a Lemon-Lime flavor and have zero calories and sugar. A 500-milliliter bottle will have 10 milligrams of hemp extract.
The Scottsdale, Ariz.-based company is known for its alkaline water brand, Alkaline88.
Sprig, Newport Beach, Calif., is a CBD-infused sparkling beverage that recently released new 12-ounce sleek cans.
Sprig is available in Original Citrus, sweetened with natural cane sugar, and three zero-sugar flavors: Citrus Zero Sugar, Melon Zero Sugar and Lemon Tea Zero Sugar. Sprig contains no THC, the company said.
The company recently opened a third distribution center in the Midwest to meet growing demand in the central and eastern United States.
