SAN FRANCISCO — Delivery app company DoorDash is partnering with liquor retailer Spec’s Wine, Spirits and Finer Foods to bring alcohol to the greater Houston area.

DoorDash, San Francisco, announced in September it would start delivering alcohol in 20 states. Customers can use the app to buy alcohol from restaurants, grocery stores, convenience stores and now, Spec’s Wine, Spirits and Finer Foods’ 175 stores in Texas.

"We are happy to partner with DoorDash to enable our customers to access products from our portfolio of locations across the state," said John Rydman, president and owner of Spec's Wine, Spirits and Finer Foods. "Our wide selection of beverage, deli and other entertaining products are requested by many of our online customers, but some were previously unavailable for on-demand access, even on our own app, until now."

Before checkout, customers will be required to upload their ID for legal age verification, in addition to meeting the Dasher face-to-face. Customers can use the app to pick up alcohol or get it delivered.

“DoorDash is proud to partner with Texas-favorite Spec's Wine, Spirits and Finer Foods to responsibly offer adults on-demand alcohol delivery from 175 locations across the state,” said Caitlin Macnamara, director of Alcohol Strategy and Operations at DoorDash. “Customers will now have access to tens of thousands of items at the tip of their fingers via DoorDash Marketplace.”

The DoorDash-Spec’s partnership isn’t the first time an app delivery service has paired with a brick-and-mortar store to offer alcohol delivery.  Delivery company Gopuff, Philadelphia, acquired alcohol retailer BevMo in December 2020 to expand its network of local micro-fulfillment centers on the West Coast by integrating its technology and delivery solution with BevMo’s infrastructure. 7-Eleven, Irving, Texas, also recently partnered with alcohol delivery service Minibar Delivery to bring beer and wine directly to adults in select markets in Florida, Texas and Virginia.
