Jones Soda's Newest: A Taste of Italy

Has subsidiary created "an entirely new beverage category"?

SEATTLE -- Jones Soda Co. will channel the flavors Rome in its newest venture, a noncarbonated blend of lemon and coconut under company subsidiary Jones Beverages International.

Launched Jan. 13, Lemoncocco "represents an entirely new beverage category that was inspired by the distinctive refreshment stands found along the streets of Rome, Italy." The company said. The drink is flavored "with the extracts of Sicilian lemons and a splash of coconut cream," creating a natural beverage, lightly sweetened with cane sugar. The product contains 90 calories per 12-ounce serving.

Quietly launched in 2015 in the San Francisco and Seattle markets, Lemoncocco has been strategically distributed by Italian distributors. Following the success of this quiet launch, Lemoncocco will now expand into more North American markets throughout this year, the company said.

”We are very excited to bring this classic Italian refresher to North America,” said Jennifer Cue, CEO of Jones Soda Co., and who is married to an Italian from Rome. She was introduced to the beverage on one of her many trips to Italy.

“When I tasted the beverage for myself and saw the enthusiasm for this drink in Rome, I realized the potential of this unique beverage back home," she said. "Our version of Lemoncocco is less sweet than that found in Rome and to me is more on trend with evolving tastes of the North American palate.”

As part of the launch, Lemoncocco has partnered with Italian car maker FIAT, which will offer Lemoncocco to consumers who test drive FIAT vehicles, use Lemoncocco-branded FIATS and participate at various co-branded events in North America.

Based in Seattle, Jones Beverages International is a wholly owned subsidiary of Jones Soda Co., maker of Jones Cane Sugar Soda, Jones Zilch and Jones Stripped brands.
