LA CROSSE, Wis. — Convenience-store chain Kwik Trip and insurance company State Farm have teamed up to help local farmers and families in need during the coronavirus pandemic.

State Farm’s auto and home insurance agents in Wisconsin are providing nearly 54,000 vouchers for a free gallon of milk that can be used at any Wisconsin Kwik Trip through July 16.

With limited refrigeration in food pantries, the availability of milk has been one of the difficult challenges of COVID-19, according to the companies. Supply-chain disruptionshave  also affected dairy prices at stores.

“This spring, farmers were looking for extra dairy plants to take their milk and unfortunately, some were actually dumping milk on their fields because of the excess,” John McHugh, director of public relations with Kwik Trip, said. “We wanted to work to prevent that from happening.”

Most of the milk for the La Crosse, Wis.-based c-store chain’s dairy comes from within a 75-mile radius, said McHugh.

Pairing with State Farm, Bloomington, Ill., was a natural fit since both companies are committed to their communities, he said.

June is dairy month, a special time in Wisconsin. It’s also a special month for State Farm as we celebrate our 98th anniversary,” State Farm Vice President of Agency Maggie Oleson said. “Our agents wanted to do something impactful to celebrate, so we got together with Kwik Trip to help put milk on the tables of our friends, families and neighbors. And, given that both companies have over 300 storefronts in the state, the distribution of the vouchers across the state will have an expansive reach.”

Kwik Trip is No. 13 on the Top 40 update to CSP’s 2019 Top 202 ranking of U.S. c-store chains by number of retail outlets.
