BLACKWOOD, N.J. — A new sweet iced tea, Halfday, is promoting itself as different from other brands by containing significantly less sugar and 8 grams of plant fiber for gut health to create a better-for-you beverage option.

Each 12-oz. can contains 3 to 4 grams of sugar, 4 to 6 grams of net carbs and 35 to 40 calories per can without sacrificing taste, the company said.

Blackwood, N.J.-based Halfday’s flavors, peach green tea, lemon black tea and green tea with honey and ginseng, pair with any summer food, the company said, suggesting complementing salty snacks and pizza with the sweet and thirst-quenching peach green tea and pairing seafood with the citrusy lemon black tea.

The teas, being carried by urban convenience-store retailer Foxtrot, Target, Publix and elsewhere, are priced at $3 per can and also come in a variety 12-pack for $36. They are made with organic tea, are gluten-free, noncarbonated, paleo friendly and contain natural caffeine.

The company was founded in 2021 by two friends, Kayvon Jahanbakhsh and Michael Lombardo, who grew up in Blackwood, N.J. Jahanbakhsh, at age 18, was hospitalized for three months with ulcerative colitis due to being overworked and overstressed, according to the company’s website. He lost 80 pounds while sick, and with Lombardo began searching for fun ways to improve gut and overall health.

“Severely missing our favorite drinks from growing up, sugar-bomb iced teas, we decided to make our own,” their website said. “But make them actually healthy and actually delicious, because better-for-you should be a lot more fun-for-you.”
