NEW YORK — Nguyen Coffee Supply’s launch of its ready-to-drink (RTD) Vietnamese coffee made with 100% robusta beans is a first of its kind in the United States with national distribution and made with 100% robusta beans from Vietnam and manufactured in the United States, the company said.

Nguyen Coffee Supply will launch several RTD coffee products this year, the first being a classic black cold brew. This first RTD is made with 100% natural ingredients with no sugar added. It’s dairy-free/vegan, gluten-free and shelf stable.

“After studying the RTD coffee market in the U.S. for years, I could only find ‘100% Arabica’ or nondescript blends,” New York-based Nguyen Coffee Supply founder Sahra Nguyen said. “We’re excited to show the world the potential of Vietnam’s beloved robusta.”

Since its founding in 2018, Nguyen Coffee Supply has been an advocate and champion of the resilient robusta bean, the company said, adding that in addition to being a relatively unknown brew, robusta’s farming practices are more sustainable and use fewer pesticides. Its beans, higher in caffeine content, are lower in fats and sugars.

“Despite the coffee industry’s stigma against the robusta variety, which excluded robusta farming communities from entering specialty coffee markets, Nguyen Coffee Supply set out to change the narrative, educate consumers and expand the coffee conversation to be inclusive of robusta,” the company said. “Vietnam is the second-largest producer of coffee in the world (and the leading producer of robusta beans) and yet the nation has not played a significant role in specialty coffee culture.”

Nguyen Coffee Supply's mission is to build a more diverse, inclusive and equitable coffee trade. In June, Nguyen Coffee Supply said it changed Whole Foods’ policy on robusta coffee beans and became the first coffee company to sell 100% robusta coffee beans in Whole Foods. “This systemic change will unlock a pathway for robusta farming communities around the world to also enter the specialty coffee market and elevate their livelihoods,” the company said.

Nguyen Coffee Supply ships to customers in all 50 states and internationally to Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Singapore and the United Kingdom. Nguyen Coffee Supply is available in a variety of styles including the traditional ca phe sua da (Vietnamese coffee with sweetened condensed milk and ice) as well as Chemex, French press, drip, espresso and cold brew.

The company’s mission is to increase economic advancement for Vietnamese farmers through specialty coffee production while building a diverse and inclusive coffee culture for all, it said.
