CHICAGO — Many beverages sold in convenience stores—including BodyArmor Lyte, Corona Premier, Gatorade Zero and more—made the 2020 U.S. BASES Top 25 Breakthrough Innovations List.
The annual list, created by BASES, a Nielsen Global Consumer Business, recognizes consumer packaged goods (CPG) that have bounced back amid the COVID-19 pandemic and won customer’s hearts and minds, according to Chicago-based data and analytics company Nielsen.
Several of this year’s winners, which range from beverages to cleaning products to snacks, extended their brand by expanding when and how it is consumed, Nielsen said. Many consumers are now brining convenience to their homes to replicate out-of-the home experiences they had before people started working and quarantining at home.
“To compete today, marketers are employing diverse strategies for innovation. A few of these strategies include disrupting the category, fending off competitive pressure or targeting a highly engaged core target of consumers. These varied approaches have yielded important changes to the market, and BASES Top 25 Breakthrough Innovations celebrates not just the big bets, but all of these impactful and highly successful innovations,” said Ben Macedo, leader of BASES, North America.
Consumer needs and priorities are evolving, just like they did before COVID-19, and manufacturers are answering this demand, Nielsen said.
