MUNICH, Germany -- Paulaner Brauerei GmbH & Co KG, Munich, Germany, has formed a new U.S. importer. After a review of many U.S. beer importers, Paulaner has decided to import its beers once again through a subsidiary company to be known as Paulaner HP USA. It will represent Paulaner and Hacker-Pschorr to the company's existing distributor network, plus a group of international specialty brewers, fine wines and spirits.
Until 2003, Paulaner had been servicing the U.S. market through its wholly owned subsidiary.
Former Paulaner president Jeffrey Coleman and CFO [image-nocss] Colleen Mackey will resume their management roles within the new importer. New to Paulaner HP USA's management core will be Patrick Magallanes as chief marketing officer.
This transition is already under way; the company is seeking regulatory approval and hiring field managers. Promotional programs for the balance of 2009 will be sent out in the coming weeks, and it is taking orders for this year's Paulaner Oktoberfest-M arzen and Hacker-Pschorr Oktoberfest.
The current importer, Star Brands Imports, a Heineken-affiliate, has indicated that it would support Paulaner and Hacker-Pschorr's transition to Paulaner HP USA. Star Brands, which also handles several other import brands, is being disbanded, according to Paulaner.
Brewed in Munich, Germany, since 1634, Paulaner is a leading Germany's specialty brewery. Paulaner's portfolio includes Original Munich Lager, Premium Pils, Hefe-Weizen, Oktoberfest-M arzen, Salvator Doppelbock and Thomasbr au.
Hacker-Pschorr was founded in 1417; the most popular Hacker-Pschorr brands imported to the United States include Hacker-Pschorr Weisse, Weisse Dark, Oktoberfest M arzen, Munich Gold and its Hacker-Pschorr Double Bock Beer.
